#Access campaign initiates SMS line for more than just fees.

THE WITS SRC has launched a SMS line for the #Access campaign to raise funds for students in need.

People who are interested can donate by SMSing the word “Access” to 42167. This line will allow donors to give R30 towards the cause.

According to SRC general secretary Fasiha Hassan the network providers will only take be taking some of the money for maintenance and the rest will go into Wits Humanitarian Fund account. The pledge line will be open every day from 8:30pm to midnight.

“The SMS line will also feature ways to help students with food, accommodation and academic support, which will try to support students to complete their degree,” said Hassan.

“We encourage students, Wits staff and community members to SMS as many times as possible as a means of donating to the potential beneficiaries.”

The #Access Campaign is about students who fell in the “missing middle” category, students who don’t qualify for NSFAS but still cannot afford their fees and need to be assisted.

Hassan said the campaign will prioritise undergraduate students to help them finish their degrees.
