Executive Meeting at Education Campus turns violent.
Two Wits staff members have been rushed to hospital following a fight at the Wits Education campus earlier this evening. A lecturer and a campus control manager were taken to Milpark hospital following scuffles which broke out during a meeting of the Wits School of Education (WSE), which was disrupted by a group of students, according to John Skosana, a Campus Control contract manager.
Skosana could not reveal the identities of the injured individuals and said he could not comment on the extent of their injuries.
An eyewitness who declined to be named, said the meeting in the Admin Building involved members of the WSE executive including two members of the Education Student Council (ESC). The eyewitness said members of the Wits EFF attempted to join the meeting which is when the fight broke out. A Wits EFF student allegedly took a fire extinguisher and “started spraying security personnel, who were trying to stop the fight”, said the eyewitness.
Mangaliso Sambo, a Wits EFF member of the ESC said that “EFF was not at the meeting” but added that “we were moered by black and white lectures because they did not want us to be part of the meeting.”
One of the Wits EFF students who was on the scene refused to comment on this incident saying, “We are not saying anything yet, we are still consolidating amongst ourselves”.
