Creation is a deeply personal process; we embed pieces of ourselves in everything we write, every drawing we sketch, every photo we take. The ability for our creations to “speak back” is evidence of their humanity. In an age where creativity is being increasingly consumed by AI, this humanness remains our greatest weapon. Through a diversity of mediums, I hope to weave stories that speak out and connect in a way that is fundamentally and irreplaceably human.

Kerese Govender

Kerese Govender

In my 21 years of life, I cannot recall a single, conscious memory of there ever being a time when I did not have a book or pen in my hands. My writing is a journey into the depths of my heart and soul. Every poem, piece of prose or photograph has a part of me in it. I weave my soul in between the written words. I rip my heart out of my chest and carefully place it between the bindings. The ideas overflow and the pen runs out of ink. The book is busting at the seams, and the pages are worn out. My heart is full of love, and I am no longer starving. Only when I am buried between the bindings.
