On the day of the Miss Varsity Shield finals, Portia took some time out to chat to the Vuvuzela, all the way from Cape Town.

What are you studying?

Bachelor of Law, 3rd year.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy chilling with my friends, reading, listening to music. I love playing and watching sport. I have a thirst for traveling the world and learning about different people and their cultures.

Where are you from – where did you grow up and go to school?

I was born and bred in Johannesburg and I went to St Martin’s High School.

How did you become involved in Miss Varsity Shield?

I attended all the home rugby games and was picked out of the crowd.

What has the experience been like?

My experience has been phenomenal. I’ve met a whole lot of new people and have become rather keen on rugby (as I wasn’t before hand).

 What do you plan to do if you win the title?

I plan to represent Wits and help out with the Miss Varsity Shield next year, and spread more awareness about the competition in an attempt to get more girls interested in the game.

What are you plans for the future?

I recently signed with one of SA’s top five law firms, and I plan to start my articles there in 201

What’s on the agenda for the Miss Varsity Shield finalists in Cape Town today?

It really is nice here, and we are all having loads of fun. We’re doing a photo shoot, interviews, as well as spa treatment, so it’s going to be a busy busy day!
