Wits’ Fitness and Wellness centre’s manager speaks fitness, the new gym and what the Wits community should look forward to.THE WITS Fitness and Wellness Centre on Wits University’s west campus opened in January 2017 and if you have not popped in already to meet the team, what better way to introduce you to the man at the forefront of the running of the facility.
Wits Vuvuzela sat down with manager, Deen Rhoda to find out more about him and what he has in store for this new campus facility.
The 28-year-old who hails from Cape Town, said part of his vision for the gym is to establish it and make it popular amongst students as a vibey place to be on campus.
Rhoda has been in the fitness industry for nine years. He has always been a sporty person so when he finished his schooling and began working, he decided to do something he is passionate about instead of only working for money.
Rhoda did a personal training course and then began to climb the career ladder when he fulfilled managerial positions at various gyms before joining Wits Sports.
“As clichéd as it may sound but I believe in the saying: if you do what you love, you won’t have to work a day in your life, and that’s what I get to do,” he said.
Colleague Shanique Naidoo said Rhoda has a knack for dealing with people and situations that can be difficult at times.
“The main thing about him (Rhoda) is that he is a leader and as such tends to want to carry a lot on his shoulders to make the load lighter for everyone else at work,” said Naidoo.
Rhoda hopes to grow and establish his name within the fitness industry, which is still one of the spaces that still sees growth because it is relatively new in the country.
