A robbery has taken place at the Wits Junction residence in Parktown.
Two Wits University students were inside the Wits Junction residence community centre when it was robbed early on Saturday morning. Junction management released a statement confirming the incident which is believed to have taken place around 3am, saying that the robbery was allegedly carried out by four assailants who managed to access the residence by breaking through a fence.
The Wits Protection Services crime prevention and liaison officer, Mashudu Lucky Khumela, has confirmed that two laptops and an iPhone were taken and that the two students were unharmed but likely traumatised. It is not clear if the stolen items belonged to the two students.
“Extra security measures have been put in place and police were informed the same day to increase patrols around the area in addition to Protection Services patrols,” he said.
Khumela confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
