The student was reported missing last Friday.
A Wits University student who went missing last week has been found safe. Kamohelo Mosebi returned home on Monday, March 4 after disappearing on Friday, March 1.
Mosebi’s grandmother, Mannini Mosebi, said the fourth-year BAccSci student returned home to Central Western Jabavu, Soweto, from Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital by taxi.
“She came home alone. She said that she collapsed in a taxi at [Bree Taxi rank] on her way to school. She came with drips and medication and said that the hospital told her that she had low blood pressure and that she was dehydrated,” the 66-year-old told Wits Vuvuzela.
The grandmother said that Mosebi’s return felt like a heavy bag of cement had been lifted off her shoulders as she hadn’t slept or eaten well since the student’s disappearance.
“I feel excited, like a newborn baby has come home. I told my friend that I’m going to have a one-on-one mom and child discussion to write down what’s stressing her out,” she said. “The things I was thinking were all negative; I didn’t have any positive [thoughts].”
The pensioner also said that she and her family had gone searching for the 22-year-old at Wits, as well as Charlotte Maxeke Academic , Helen Joseph, and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospitals but were unsuccessful in their search.
“When we went to Barangwanath, we asked for the known and unknown patient list. We were then directed to look for her in different wards. We looked up to ward 10, and she was admitted at ward 85,” the grandmother said.
Brigadier Govinvasamy of Moroka Police Station confirmed to Wits Vuvuzela that the student returned home on the afternoon of Monday, March 4 and that a missing person’s case had been opened on Saturday, March 2.
Mosebi had lived in a residence for the first three years of her degree and decided to stay at home for her final year. According to her grandmother, she had recently been complaining about the commute between school and home.
The grandmother said the student was taken to a local doctor by her grandfather after her return to confirm the diagnosis and check the medication she says was prescribed to her.
