Wits thrashed  Nkanu FC 3-0 in the SAB League encounter

The Wits men’s first soccer team crushed Nkanu FC 3 – 0 in the Safa South African Breweries (SAB) League at Sturrock Park on Saturday April 4, .

The team currently ranks third on the league, while its opposition Nkanu FC, occupies the 11th spot.

In the first half, Nkanu FC missed three opportunities to secure a goal, whereas Wits FC’s winger, Kelvin Ntshangase suffered a minor injury, 16 minutes into the game.

The second half of the game also saw Nkanu FC miss an opportunity to to bring a point on the scoreboard after a penalty shootout.

Nkanu FC captain Thato Rahlogo says that although the game was hard, the team needs to keep their head up.

“Tomorrow we have a game. It is another day, so we must just forget about what happened today,” he said.

Wits captain and BCom Economics student Tshireletso Motsogi shared his thoughts on the possibility of occupying the number one spot in the league.

“We don’t know how the remaining games are going to go for the other teams as well,” said Motsogi.

Wits coach Mark Haskins told Wits Vuvuzela that the ranking on the league is unsatisfactory for his team.

“We’re a little disappointed to be third because we should’ve won the league by now,” said Haskins.

“In the beginning of the year we won 14 games in a row, and that gave us a good rhythm closer to the end of the season, which is now,” he added.

He also told Wits Vuvuzela that the team had been lucky to have former captain of Bafana Bafana Steven Pienaar train with them for three weeks before the match.

Wits is set to play with Midas FC on Sunday May 5, while Nkanu FC goes head to head with Super Spurs FC.
