Wits Basketball Club celebrates Women’s Month.

Wits Basketball Club will be hosting the annual Wits Lady Bucks Basketball Tournament in celebration of the Lady Ballers out there during the month of August.

The aim of the tournament is to celebrate and honour all women across South Africa.

“What better way to do so, than to host a tournament specifically for all the ladies out there, especially those in the world of basketball,” said Wits Basketball officer Rudzani Ramuthuga.

Wits Basketball Club is hosting this women only tournament for the fourth time.

“We are excited and optimistic that this will be a successful tournament because we have four nations participating in the tournament. This is a great achievement for us as it means we are succeeding in creating awareness of women in basketball,” said Ramuthuga.

The chairperson of the club and Captain Modiegi Mokoka said that it is difficult to win the tournament when you are the host and the level of competition gets increasing every year.

“It is no longer about winning the tournament but competing at a standard we can be proud of,” said Mokoka.

According to Ramuthuga there are no restrictions as to which women’s team may participate. Some of the teams that will be participating are from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, North West University, Rhodes University and Monash South Africa.

The tournament will start from August 9, 11-14, at Hall 29, West Campus.
