Wits campus radio station, Voice of Wits (VowFM), has won a total of four awards at the 2017 Liberty Radio Awards in Sandton on Saturday, April 22.
The radio station was nominated in a total of 11 categories with one nominee in the Bright Star Club category which acknowledges rising stars in the radio industry. VoW’s 22-year-old technical manager Katlego Mahlangu was awarded a Bright Star award.

VowFM has won four categories at this years Liberty Radio Awards.
The station had hoped to bag the coveted Station of the Year Award but lost to fellow campus station MFM 92.6 from Stellenbosch.
The Best News Reader Award was won by former Wits Vuvuzela journalist, Katleho Sekhotho, who completed her internship at VoWFM presenter and currently works as a reporter at EWN.
The stations’ awards “really speak to how VoWFM can be one of the fastest moving campus stations and has a level of professionalism that commercial stations look out for”, says Sekhotho.
VowFM’s veteran presenter DJ Keyez took away two awards, one as the best afternoon drive presenter and another for the Best Afternoon Drive Show for The Lift Club.
