Neo AJ Sehlahla is a musician, a linguistics student and this week’s cool kid.

Neo AJ Sehlahla is currently doing his BA honours in linguistics at Wits University. He is also a South African musician from Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, who is passionate about experimenting with different musical genres from house to hip hop to religious poetry.

Sehlahla is motivated by local Motswako artist, Chaos, and credits him as a serious influence in his musical journey.

Sehlahla realised his dream to record his music through another local aspiring artist Brian, also known as MK. MK reached out to Sehlahla and they later released a mixtape titled The Earth Lord which included local popular hits like Robatsena Rrebatsen, Otlahohloba, and The Streets of Jozi.

“I was featured in an online magazine named TSA PITORI which was published on May 23, 2015 and I also got a SoshTimes article feature in 2016,” says Sehlahla of the exposure his music has brought him.

Through this exposure, Sehlahla has had the opportunity to share the stage with a number of top names including Alaska, Tebe and Black Coffee.

“I was honoured to perform at the #FeesMustFall 2016 concert, where I shared the stage with The Muffinz, Thandiswa Mazwai and other revolutionary acts.”

His latest album was released late in 2017 and includes songs like Sondela, She’s My Queen, I Really Like It and Bars of Steel.

“The nickname AJ came into life when most of my listeners started referring to me as #AJ Neo de Mreppa kid and amazing jam star, therefore I combined the two and AJ came into life.”

“I then went on to create my own trademark #I.B.J.A#, which means I Belong To Jesus Alone.”

“I have accomplished alot for an independent township citizen. I am an artist who has no major resources to produce the amount of hits I have already produced.”
