The awards ceremony took place at Sandton Convention Center.

WITS UNIVERSITY campus radio station Voice of Wits (VOW FM) has won the Best Campus/Community content producer award at the annual Liberty Radio Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, April 14. The award went to DJ Keyez, a previous Liberty award winner who has since left VOW FM for KayaFM.

VOW FM marketing manager, Marona Seekane, said she was very happy with the win as it showed the quality of work the campus station produces.

“This is a validation that we are on the right track. We strive to produce content of high quality which our listeners can relate to and this win shows that we are doing things right.
“DJ Keyez is now working for one of the biggest and best commercial radio stations in this country and we are so proud of him,” she said.

Seekane says VOW FM hopes that they will be awarded the station of the year award next year.

Wits Radio Academy student, Adadume Magadlela, was awarded the Liberty Radio Award bursary to study radio broadcasting.

Magadlela said he didn’t expect to be chosen for the bursary but he really worked hard and thinks he has something special to offer the radio industry.
“I’m still speechless. I appreciate the bursary and it will go a long way in ensuring that I continue with my studies at the Wits Radio Academy. All I have to do now is to study hard and pass because so many people wanted this bursary, but I am the one who was chosen. I don’t want to disappoint them,” he said.

Liberty Radio Awards CEO and former VOW FM station manager, Lance Rothschild, told Wits Vuvuzela that this year’s award programme was successful and he hopes to see an increase in entries next year.

“Next year we hope to see an increase into the newly established categories of online radio and podcast; Over the past eight years we have managed to be consistent and honour those who deserve to be honoured.”
VOW FM was nominated in eight categories this year including Night Time Show for Love Shack and Afternoon Drive Show for The Lift Club.
