A Wits University student remains behind bars after his bail hearing was postponed yet again. Third-year education student, Moses Modisane, appeared in front of the Johannesburg Magistrates court for the fourth time today, April 25, since his arrest on a charge of rape on April 10.
Modisane’s hearing was postponed once more after the court failed to verify an address provided by the accused. Modisane, who is alleged to have raped a fellow student at the Wits Junction residence in Parktown, gave the magistrate a new address which the court needs to verify before the bail application can be heard.
Modisane who is a former Wits Junction Residence House Committee member, has been suspended from Junction residence and Wits Protection Services have been asked to serve him with a suspension notice from the university. This is according to Director of the Gender Equity Office (GEO), Crystal Dicks.
Modisane will remain in custody at Sun City Prison in Naturena until his next bail application hearing on Wednesday, May 2.
