Kgosigadi aims to #BeTheNext to join the coolest line up in the country on YFM.
VOW FM’s Boipelo ‘Kgosigadi’ Hlapane, is auditioning live on air to stand a chance to win a three-month contract with commercial radio station, YFM, in the Smirnoff #BeTheNext competition.
The qualified sound engineer and seasoned broadcaster has been co-hosting the last hour of The Nightcap with Lula Odiba, between 21:00- 22:00 on YFM as part of her live audition.
Kgosigadi has been with VOW FM since 2018, being part of the station gave her the opportunity to hone her skills. She told Wits Vuvuzela, “I have grown so much and developed so much confidence, wisdom and strength.” She added: “I feel I’m a better broadcaster today than I was three years ago when I started in the game.”
Her Setswana radio name, Kgosigadi, means “The Queen”. It came about through her on-air experience with a co-host. They shared the same name, Boipelo, which was confusing for the listeners. Under the guidance of her previous content producer, Kgosigadi was born. “I am very proud to say that I’ve embodied the name so well and I really feel like I grow up every single day in my radio career, to embody the name and to fulfil all things that would come with being Kgosigadi.”
She describes her spirit as indomitable and associates herself and her brand with positive energy, using the air waves to encourage and spread positivity to her listeners.
Her journey towards broadcasting was not always clear-cut. She first enrolled to study medicine at the University of Pretoria, but later realised that this is not where she should be. After taking a gap year, she enrolled at the Academy of Sound Engineering. One thing has always been clear: she wanted to help people heal. Her voice and energy transmit just that.
“My desire is always that I’m able to turn everybody’s day around. So, if you’re having a bad day, it’s always my desire that I get to make you feel a little bit better. I would love to be an escape for people and a very positive escape, that makes you want to be a better version of yourself.”
During her on air audition, Kgosigadi brought her stellar energy and some dance moves. As part of the competition, she had to showcase her dance moves on social media while holding a bottle of Smirnoff Pine Twist.
The voting lines are open until 22:00 on Friday, June 4,2021. To vote for Kgosigadi, go to the #BeTheNext website and click the thumbs up button.
