Spreading fake news can have legal and other dangerous consequences.
Social media has the power to help people stay connected and informed about what is happening locally and internationally. However, it can also help spread fake news and disinformation. This has been most apparent during the ongoing covid-19 pandemic and the recent unrest in the country.
Whatever we choose to post, share and retweet has the potential to reach thousands of people, regardless of accuracy. People need to actively choose to be responsible social media users and only share verified and factual information.
