Witsie to grace airwaves after emerging victorious in radio dj search competition.
A Wits bachelor of commerce graduate and former VoW FM presenter has won YFM’s #BeTheNext presenter search competition, as announced on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
Mncedisi Sindane heard he won during a live broadcast of a radio show hosted by Lula O Diba, after receiving 1 903 votes in the form of retweets on Twitter.
“I feel extremely excited. This is a job I have been dreaming about since the days I was at VoW FM. When I was announced the winner, I couldn’t believe it. At some point I thought someone would wake me up and tell me it’s been a dream,” says Sindane.
The competition made possible by YFM and Smirnoff SA started in May but was only open to campus radio DJs. Sindane says this was stressful as he was not working at campus radio station, VoW FM, anymore. However, things took a turn in June when the competition rules were relaxed, to allow entrants from the general public.

This saw Sindane co-host ‘The Night Cap’ with Lula O Diba for three days a week. Going on-air was easy for him because of his technical radio knowledge, “All I had to do was focus on being creative and showcasing my talent the best way I know how to,” he says.
Sindane told Wits Vuvuzela that he did not have high hopes when he entered the competition. “I didn’t want to get my hopes up throughout the competition, but I got used to the idea of winning, the further I went into it,” he says.
Karabo Rammekoa, one of the people who voted for Sindane told Wits Vuvuzela that she felt the need to support a fellow black man. Rammekoa says, “I saw a post on LinkedIn about the competition and that motivated me to vote for him.”
Khutso Theledi, YFM host of the ‘The Lady On Drive’, took to Twitter to congratulate Sindane, “Welcome to the Yfm family and I wish you a beautiful journey. It’s so great to call you a colleague,” reads the tweet.
Sindane will make his on-air debut on Monday, August 30 2021, as host of ‘The First Dose With Mncedisi’ between 00:00am and 03:00am.
