Bail has been granted to a Wits student arrested for rape.

After a number of appearances at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, Wits University education student, Moses Modisane was granted bail of R3 000 last week Monday, May 8.

Modisane, a former Student Representative Council (SRC) sub-committee member who is accused of raping a fellow student at the Wits Junction residence in Parktown in April, paid the bail on the same day and subsequently released from custody. It is not clear whether Modisane will return to Wits to continue studying.

The 21-year-old is expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday, May 14 as the case continues.
